Duke Nukem: Time to Kill

Graphics & Sound:
The graphics are excellent! Duke Nukem: Time to Kill consists of beautifully rendered 3D worlds filled to capacity with raunchy puns and hilarious visual jokes. I was rolling from the time I popped it into my PSX. Duke’s riotous one-liners and unabashed arrogance had me hooked at once. Parents be warned -- this is not a game for young kids. It’s rather risqué, and besides, kids just couldn’t appreciate the humor.

Gameplay:
Time to Kill is a 3rd person shooter very similar to Tomb Raider. But somehow, I get the feeling Duke doesn’t like being grouped in the same category with Lara Croft. (For a laugh, go to “Bootylicious,” go behind the bar and activate the cash register. This opens a secret room. Kill the bad guy, open the wardrobe and scoop up the ammo. Lara’s outfit (or one very similar) is hanging in the wardrobe -- in a strip joint! Duke says, “Ewwww. Skanky outfit.”) This game’s a blast to play, and it’s easy to jump in and start playing. The levels are huge and full of puzzles. For a good time, call Duke.

Difficulty:
Not too bad. Once you get the hang of the aiming system, it’s fairly easy to make your way through the levels. But you’ll want to explore everywhere, kill everyone, and blow everything up in your path. It just wouldn’t be Duke otherwise. This game offers the perfect combination of challenge and ease of play.

Game Mechanics:
Duke is multi-talented; he can shoot, jump, hang, roll, kick things open with his “Mighty Boot,” and deliver deadly verbal and physical blows. You can use the auto aim feature (sweet) or the R1 button puts you in sniper mode. One helpful feature is the way Duke becomes transparent when you use the Look button. You literally see through him. Duke Nukem: Time to Kill is loaded with secret areas, awesome ammo, and tons of humor. A lot of work went into this game’s development and it shows.
