RC Revenge

Score: 97%
ESRB: Everyone
Publisher: Acclaim
Developer: Acclaim Studios Cheltenham
Media: CD/1
Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Racing

Graphics & Sound:

If you've ever played any RC (Remote Control) car games in the past, you know that game speed and quick turning is essential, but on console systems, graphics usually are lacking because of this. Not true in RC Revenge. Yes, you will notice that the terrain in front of you pops up, but everything else is as smooth as a baby's butt.

The sound is equally impressive. You will know what the theme of the track is by the music and sound effects right away. Crank your stereo and burn some rubber!

Gameplay:

No matter what the name of the RC game, gameplay is where it's at, and RC Revenge is all that and more! Take away the 20+ tracks (+ reverse, mirrored, and mirrored reverse), the track editor, the wide variety of cars, and the track themes, and you would have a basic game that would still be fun to play. Oh, and did I mention that you can also drive boats?

You can, and you will. In fact, one of the coolest features is that some of the tracks actually allow you to choose between a car and a boat in the race! In fact, if you want, you can switch from one to the other in the middle of the race. Now throw in some power-ups and you've got yourself a rootin' tootin' RC adventure.

Difficulty:

RC Revenge's difficulty is just about perfect, if not a little on the easy side. This doesn't mean that you will instantly roll over your opponents, but after you learn the tracks (and their shortcuts!), you shouldn't have too hard of a time getting first place and unlocking more goodies. Of course, when playing two-player split-screen, your difficulty will depend on your buddy. But wait! You can also have some computer cars join you on your quest for success.

Game Mechanics:

You can always judge a game by popping it in and playing without touching the instruction booklet (you know, like all real men do when they are assembling something?). RC Revenge's controls are simple to use and basic enough to do just that. Technique is where the Radio Shack cars are separated from the real RC cars! If you have analog, please learn to use it. I promise it will help you in the long run, not just for this game, but all racing games. But more importantly, learning to use your power-ups correctly will earn you the gold. Of all of the racing games I have played, RC Revenge is most definitely one of the best out there and certainly one of the most fun! If you're into RC cars, don't even bother renting RC Revenge, just buy it!
