This season starts right where it last left off, and it starts very explosively, I might add. Last season ended with us finding out that Tony DiNozzo's (Michael Weatherly) new girlfriend Jeanne Benoit (Scottie Thompson) is really La Grenouille's (Armand Assante) daughter. Apparently Tony and Director Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) knew this the whole time. Shepard was using Tony as an undercover operative to finally try and take down La Grenouille for the death of her father. I guess there had to be a good reason that Tony overcame his fear of commitment, namely he was ordered to. Given that no one else on the team was involved in this operation, how are they all going to react when it comes to light?
As usual, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Shepard are going to be arguing a lot. I loved the humor in these arguments when the team acts as if they're their children, trying to figure out whether they should listen to mom or dad. It gives a much needed levity to the darker situations this season brings. Also Tony continually comes up with new nicknames for McGee (Sean Murray) which always make me laugh. I mean how many ways can you twist McGee's name? On the serious side though, this year the team has to deal with suicides that might not be what they seem, a ghost ship where Ziva (Cote de Pablo) shows supernatural senses, kidnappings, accidentally finding missing kids, post-traumatic stress of the most violent kind, and quite a few more problems.
I do have to mention that I still love Abby (Pauley Perette) the best. She's probably my favorite character on any television show ever. She's so intelligent and such a character too. Just don't piss her off because she might just punch you. Or in her own words, she could "boil you from the inside out without leaving a trace". How could you not love someone like that! Ducky (David McCallum) is back for Season Five also. He will have to relive some bad memories from his past and help hide the truth about someone on the team too.
As the show advertised when it was on TV, one of the main characters does indeed die at the end of Season Five. The new season starts on September 23rd, and if you're like me, you'll be glued to your television set to find out if the team even survives without this person there.
The DVD also includes a lot of interesting features like last year's did. So to sum it all up, NCIS: Season Five is even better than the previous season. Even if you haven't seen it before, you should go get it today. If you're like me, you'll watch the entire season in 2 days, so you'll definitely be ready for the beginning of the new season.
