Step Up 2 starts out following Andie (Briana Evigan). Since the death of her mother, Andie has been a continual troublemaker, hanging out with the crew 410, skipping school, and just not listening to her guardian, Sarah (Sonja Sohn). Sarah tells her that she's had enough, and Andie has to go live in Texas with her aunt. Luckily, the guy from the first movie, Tyler (Channing Tatum), steps in and convinces everyone involved that Andie would be fine if she can get into the Maryland School of the Arts (MSA).
After enrolling in MSA, Andie's life is changed forever. She starts having problems with her old crew, but finds out that the kids at MSA aren't so bad after all. A lot of them that aren't even there for dance can really dance well, just not in a traditional sense. Can she manage to unite the misfits and still win "The Streets" dance competition?
To be honest, Step Up 2 starts off slow. But if you like dance, it's worth it to keep watching. Adam Shankman does a wonderful job on the production. You can see him working with the cast and crew in a lot of the behind the scenes. Director Jon Chu does a great job too. If you watch the extras, you'll find out that the cast are actually dancers and not actors. He found them just by searching out aspiring dancers on MySpace, which explains why the dance numbers are so good. They're real dancers, no stand-ins needed.
There are a lot of special features available on the disc, and they're all worth watching! The deleted scenes are good, but I can see why they were deleted. They would have made for a more depressing movie at times, other than the dance numbers that I'm betting were shortened for time. The "Making of" featurette is very interesting to watch. Then there's also several music videos you can watch too.
If you just don't care for dance movies, you probably won't enjoy Step Up 2. It has even more dance than the first one did. But if you like dance, it's a good movie to watch, and there's so many special features that it's almost like you get 2 movies for the price of one.
