As a general rule, when you ask a person you are dating how many people she has brutally murdered, even in jest, and she avoids the question, it's probably a good idea to run away into the night right then. When that doesn't cause you to run away, the fact that she fits all the signs of the mysterious "Madam X" who marries and then kills men, according to the Weekly World News, should at least trigger an alarm. To top it all off, Harriet has a very creepy sister, Rose (Amanda Plummer). But even with all the warning signs, Charlie still proposes and the hilarity ensues.
I will concede that this probably isn't Mike Meyers' funniest movie. It is much more of an adult humor than something like the Austin Powers movies. But that doesn't mean that it isn't hilarious. There aren't any extra features included on the DVD, but it just doesn't need them to make it worth buying.
So I Married An Axe Murderer is just as funny now as it was when it originally hit the theaters in 1993. Unlike a lot of 90's comedy movies, the humor here hasn't lost a thing with age. There's even a brief and quite amusing rant from Michael Richards (better known as Kramer on Seinfeld). Besides, any movie that references The Night Gallery gets bonus points with me. So I say you should definitely go pick this up and laugh with it today.
