For your money, it would have been nice if this DVD were combined with the Gackt: Red DVD. Many of the same songs are repeated on both DVDs. "Last Song" even shows up twice on Gackt Blue, once as the music video version and once as the unplugged version.
This DVD is love-ballad heavy, so if that's what you love from Gackt, this is the DVD for you. If you're a fan of the visual entertainment Gackt is known for, go for Gackt Red. "Mirror" is probably the catchiest song that shows up here, but in my opinion, not one of his best.
"Love Letter" contains some footage from several live concerts. Gackt puts on quite a show, even riding full-gallop on horseback through one concert. "With all my Love" is an odd video about a wedding gone bad. A miniature Gackt sits in a guy's ear and sings, then travels back in time to stop a murder. "I Know my Love can Never Reach you" features a woman-turned-vampire who swordfights with her lover. Gackt dresses up in a black leather number and watches the show. These were interesting, but I thought pretty stale in comparison to the selection on Gackt Red. For the most part, the rest of the videos included on Gackt Blue are even staler. Gackt sings about his lost love, and looks wistfully off into the distance. He reminisces about the time when he had his 6 foot blonde love at his side. He'd rather stare off wistfully with her at his side, apparently. And although you can't have Gackt without his feminine touches, a couple of videos on here feature an oddly plain Gackt that looks like a girl from a Supercuts ad. I've accepted everything up to this point, but that's just a look that confuses me.
Like the Gackt Red DVD, you get access to the original Japanese lyrics by using the alternate camera angle function of your DVD player. Some may be disappointed to find that it is not in easy to read romaji, but rather full Japanese text with kanji. The Japanese lyrics are also impossible to read against light backgrounds in some of the videos. English subtitles accompany the videos otherwise, and you can turn them off if you'd like to view a clean version. No special features accompany this DVD or the Gackt Red DVD. If you are debating between the two DVDs, Gackt Red is better entertainment and just more over-the-top fun in my opinion. If you have to have everything Gackt, then Gackt Blue will at least offer some unplugged performances to fill out your collection.
