Conan the Adventurer: Season One introduces Conan and his quest, not to mention his various friends and the evil Serpent Men of Set. The show starts with a meteor shower raining down "Star Metal." This precious metal is strong and is great for making weapons. At least, that seems to be the use that Conan's tribe, the Cimmerians, get from it. While Conan's father makes a variety of weapons and sells them on the market, there is one sword he makes especially for Conan.
Meanwhile, the evil dark wizard Wrath-Amon is contacted by his god, the large demon cobra Set, and told that the fallen Star Metal is just what they need in order to free the giant snake from its imprisonment in The Abyss. When Wrath-Amon finds the metal is mostly in the possession of Conan's tribe, he raids the village and turns Conan's father, mother and grandfather into living-stone. Now, Conan will travel the land using his Star Metal Sword to return any of Wrath-Amon's henchmen to The Abyss and look for a cure for the curse the evil wizard has placed on his family.
Conan's first companions on this journey include a willful wild horse named Thunder and Needle, a young phoenix that can sleep on any flat surface and who turns into a phoenix symbol on that surface. The young bird's main resting place is Conan's shield. It isn't long before Conan gathers more friends. Included among these are the Wasai Prince, Zula who can summon animals to help him, Jazmine, a circus performer, and the wizard, Greywolf.
Conan's party also occasionally includes a viking named Felkenar and a character who can control the winds and fly upon them with the help of his bird-like cape. What's good is that each of these characters have a Star Metal weapon of some sort, and when Conan teams up with any of these characters, he will foil Wrath-Amon's many plots to bring Set into this world.
A lot of this season focuses on introducing the various characters, as well as Conan finding a few possible cures for his family's condition. It all culminates in a big battle between those warriors that wield Star Metal weapons and the snake cult that is trying to use that metal to bring the giant snake out of The Abyss.
Conan the Adventurer: Season One doesn't boast any special features, and the season is only 13 episodes long, but it's a good dip into the world of Conan and in a cleaned-up, family-friendly format. While not the best cartoon from the 90's, it's still good for nostalgic reasons, at least for those that remember the show when it first aired.
