As a general rule, I'm wary of horror movies set on a plane as really there's only so far that you can run and so many places that you can hide in a plane! So I was a bit worried when I saw the previews for Quarantine 2: Terminal as all the previews I saw showed everything on the plane. Luckily, the plane is only a small portion at the beginning, so the majority of Quarantine 2 takes place in the airport terminal. The movie opens on Paula (Bre Blair) and Jenny (Mercedes Masöhn) in a taxi trying to get to the airport before their flight leaves. They're stewardesses on a plane leaving out of L.A. When they get on the plane, the co-pilot is sick. He says he has a head cold that he got from his dog and that all the dogs in the neighborhood are acting funny. A guy named Henry (Josh Cooke) brings a small dog crate of hamsters on the plane and a passenger is bitten. A woman named Louise (Sandra Lafferty) has a cat on the plane and another passenger is sneezing, but these are all common things that you see on just about every flight that you get on. Anyone could be sick on a plane at any time, so really, we're all guessing in the first few minutes who brought the virus on board.
Ralph (George Back) gets sick first and pukes on a stewardess. But so far, it doesn't look like the same virus from Contagion, at least not until he bites the stewardess's face. Luckily, she had a face mask on, but will that protect her from this infection? There is a medic named Shilah (Noree Victoria) on the plane, so they have some medical attention, but that's only going to do so much good. The pilot gets the plane landed with the infected guy trapped in the bathroom by the passengers. Everyone thinks that they are safe now, that they just need to get off of the plane and the authorities will take care of everything. Unfortunately, they are directed to an empty terminal except for one traffic controller, Ed (Ignacio Serricchio), and they find that they have all been quarantined in the terminal. Things go from bad to worse quickly because, as you know from the previous movie, the virus spreads quickly and violently. When the CDC shows up, they think that they are saved, but of course, that's not going to happen. Things aren't as they seem and one person knows a lot more about what is going on than the rest do. Can anyone survive this nightmare and escape uninfected?
Quarantine 2 is a very bloody and violent movie with some extremely creepy bad guys. The virus seems a bit mutated from Quarantine as the infected tend to contort their bodies into unbelievably creepy positions, but that is quite possible as it could be a slightly different strain of virus. The characters are believable and some are even sympathetic. You find yourself really hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. The ending of Quarantine was never very satisfying to me as it felt like the movie wasn't complete. The ending of Quarantine 2 feels complete, but at the same time, leaves things open for a sequel.
