When I originally saw the commercials for Leverage: The First Season, I really wanted to see it but I missed the first few episodes and didn't want to jump in the middle. Thankfully, I received it for review and I've now got it on the DVR so I won't miss a new episode again! Leverage is the story of five people brought together in a business deal gone bad. Four are crooks, the best at what they do. One is an honest man driven too far by bad men.

When Nate Ford (Timothy Hutton) is approached by an unknown man with a very odd proposal, he immediately turns it down. After being told that he can get back at the insurance company that let his eight-year-old son die because they didn't want to pay for the treatment, he changes his mind and takes the job. His job is to lead an already assembled team of thieves to steal back the stolen plans.

The team consists of Parker (Beth Riesgraf), Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge), and Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane). These people are very different and each quite unique! Parker is only slightly insane. She's the greatest thief you've ever seen. Parker can get into and out of places better than a shadow could. She's not very good with people though. Her people skills are about the worst I've ever seen! Hardison is the computer and electronic expert. He can hack a system quicker than anyone. His skills make it possible for them to get in and out of places with the proper credentials so they don't even have to sneak in. I must say that he's the most normal of the group. Eliot Spencer is just bad ass. There's no other way to put it. He can take down large numbers of opponents without weapons. Sometimes he'll use a knife, but he doesn't care for guns. Every time he fights, it reminds me of an anime fight scene where one really strong guy takes out a village alone!

You might wonder what makes Ford qualified to lead this team. Well, Ford used to be a fraud investigator for the same insurance company that let his son die. Ford has chased so many criminals that he knows exactly what they can do and how to use all their talents to get the best results. Unfortunately on the first job, they were all double-crossed. To get revenge and get paid, Ford recruits one more member, Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman). Sophie is the world's worst actress, unless she's trying to con someone. She can make anyone believe anything if she's conning. She is simply amazing at setting people up, twisting their opinions, and taking them for everything.

After this first job is wrapped up, they are supposed to split up and go their separate ways. But this group of people has never found friends and decide they could handle doing just one more job with each other. Under Ford's direction, they spend their time helping people who can't get help from anyone else, for no cost. They "work on an alternative revenue stream." While they might not always be good guys, they're like modern day Robin Hoods in a way. As Parker says, "Sometimes bad guys are the only good guys you get," which is a perfect description of the Leverage team.

The DVD also includes a few special features, including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes, and more. These features are definitely worth watching! Leverage: The First Season is a wonderful new series. It is a high-paced action drama with just the right amount of comedy infused as well. I highly recommend that you go pick it up today!
