If you remember, J.A.G.: The Seventh Season ended very explosively. With Harm (David James Elliott), Mac (Catherine Bell), Bud (Patrick Labyorteaux), and Webb (Steven Culp) all in Afghanistan, they are all in danger's way. We knew something was going to happen to at least one of them and, of course, it had to be Bud. He lost his leg due to a landmine in Afghanistan. J.A.G.: The Eighth Season starts off with him not only dealing with the loss of his limb, but possibly the loss of his life as well!
The last few episodes of The Seventh Season and the first few episodes of The Eighth Season are very serious and not light-hearted at all. Actually I've found that to be a common theme in J.A.G. The beginning and the end of the seasons are very serious. Something always happens to leave it on a cliffhanger and so the next season picks up where the previous left off. The entire middle of the season is the normal somewhat drama with comedy mixed in and The Eighth Season is no different. During this season, there's a whole lot going on with all of the crew members.
Bud and Harriet (Karri Turner) have to deal with Bud's missing limb and his recovery. This is no easy feat! Bud's got to manage to walk again and try and get back to J.A.G. Not to mention, he's returning to a home that he's never been to before and many items that Harriet's parents keep buying for them. We all know from the past how much Bud dislikes taking money or items from his in-laws.
Harm and Mac act just like they always have. I mean seriously, when are these two going to get together? Harm, of course, is up to his usual antics. He tries to get to fly any time he can, but it just seems like something bad is going to happen every single time he takes a plane up! One really funny part to me is when he takes Admiral Chegwidden's (John M. Jackson) girlfriend up for flying lessons at the behest of the admiral since she's dying for excitement. Even if Harm survives the lesson, is the Admiral going to survive a relationship with a thrill-seeker? You know she's slightly crazy when she's scaring an ex-SEAL! Harm also remembers a deal that he and Mac made several years back and it weights very heavily on his mind. It even causes him the see things for a while.
Lt. Singer (Nanci Chambers) leaves J.A.G. headquarters to take Bud's place on the Seahawk. But don't think that means that she's off of the show. Singer has a big surprise in store for everyone. Commander Sturgis Turner (Scott Lawrence) also takes a much bigger role in the show. I really like him now. He provides a level head and in that office, they really need it!
Given that J.A.G. has run eight season at this point, it's safe to say that it is a really great show! This is also the season that NCIS was spun-off of J.A.G. You'll get the full 2-part episode that launched NCIS. This is a must for all NCIS fans out there, even if you don't watch J.A.G.! As you've probably guessed, I love J.A.G. It gets better and better as time goes on. I highly recommend that you go pick it up today!
