Ian Fleming's From Russia With Love finds the dashing James Bond (Sean Connery) once again pitted against SPECTRE, an evil crime group headed up by "Number One", of which the Austin Powers movies parodied so well, and who just so happens to want revenge for the death of their operative, Dr. No, at Bond's hands. The lure that they use is an encryption device known as the Lektor, something the British Secret Service really wants to get its hands on, and they'll use a beautiful Russian agent named Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi) to tempt Bond and seal the deal. Tania, as her friends call her, thinks that she is serving her government and has no idea that she is really working for SPECTRE and that the plan is to kill Bond. When she falls madly in love with him (as they all do), she is torn between her duty to her country and her love for Bond.

Bond will find himself in many awkward situations including battles in Istanbul, boat chases, helicopter chases, a sticky situation with some Gypsy lovelies vying for his love, and a fight to the death on The Orient Express. Connery is fantastic as Bond and the movie is truly entertaining, although like all Bond movies, feels a bit too long. There are a ton of special features here, however, for the devout Bond fan. There's a good deal of commentary, trailers, TV spots and the like, but there are also several featurettes which include vintage footage with Ian Fleming and Raymond Chandler, plus a really old CBC interview with Fleming that is sure to please fans.

From Russia With Love looks beautiful on Blu-ray and the surround sound is amazing and intense. I specify this because my sound experience with some parts of Dr. No and For Your Eyes Only was lacking. The music was too loud and when I'd turn it down, then I couldn't hear the characters' speaking. But not so with From Russia With Love. Everything was perfect and beautifully restored. If you are a Bond fan and have a high def setup, you'll want to add this one to your collection.
