Now usually when you're executed, you don't expect to wake up again. So when Ben wakes to find that he is the groundskeeper at a psychiatric hospital, he is very confused. He can remember his wife and his daughter, but he's told that he can never leave to go home again. He can never leave the hospital. He has to accept his new life there or he will die. Honestly his life there isn't bad. He's got his own place, and he even has a dog. Most people, especially convicted murderers who are supposed to be dead, would be happy for this life. Ben though can't take it. He decides to leave, and that's when things really go to hell. Now Ben has to figure out if he really is as crazy as he's being told he is. He's got to figure out what is going on at the hospital to find out if he can ever make it back to Lisa and Katie.
As exciting as I've made The Lazarus Project sound, it just falls short of excitement. The plot is good. The filming is quite well done. I liked the sound effects and the background music. The acting too is also good, so I'm not really sure why the movie as a whole falls a little flat. Maybe it is because the initial setup was slow and there was nothing after it that really picked up the speed. Whatever the reason, The Lazarus Project just isn't as thrilling as it should be. The DVD also includes some deleted scenes. They aren't really that exciting either, though.
If you happen to catch The Lazarus Project on TV, it is a decent, if only slow, movie. I just can't recommend buying the DVD though. It just falls short of entertainment. If you're dying to see it, I recommend renting it. It's probably not one of those movies that you'll watch more than once.
